What is the Opa Si Pass?

The Opa Si Pass is the official combined ticket for the monumental complex of the Cathedral of Siena, issued by the Opera della Metropolitana. With a single pass you visit seven of Siena’s most important sacred and artistic sites — from Nicola Pisano’s pulpit inside the Duomo to Pinturicchio’s frescoes in the Piccolomini Library and Duccio’s Maestà in the Museum.

The pass is valid for 3 consecutive days from your first entry, so you can spread the visits across your stay in Siena instead of rushing through everything in one afternoon. An audio guide is included at no extra cost via a free smartphone app.

What the Opa Si Pass includes

One ticket opens all seven venues of the Cathedral complex. You visit each site at your own pace, in any order, over three days.

Cathedral (Duomo)

The 13th-century Gothic cathedral in black-and-white striped marble. Home to Nicola Pisano’s carved pulpit and sculptures by Donatello, Michelangelo and Bernini.

Piccolomini Library

Ten frescoes by Pinturicchio depicting scenes from the life of Pope Pius II — one of the best-preserved fresco cycles of the Italian Renaissance.

Crypt

Rediscovered in 1999. Contains 13th-century medieval frescoes with scenes from the life of Christ — this is also where you exchange your voucher.

Baptistery of San Giovanni

The baptismal font features works by Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti and Jacopo della Quercia — three of the greatest early Renaissance sculptors together in one room.

Museo dell’Opera

The Cathedral’s own museum. Highlight: Duccio di Buoninsegna’s Maestà (1308–1311), one of the most influential paintings of the Italian trecento.

Facciatone (Panorama)

Climb the façade of the unfinished “New Cathedral” for one of the finest panoramas over Siena’s red rooftops and the Tuscan countryside.

Oratory of San Bernardino

Together with the Diocesan Museum: Sienese painting from the 13th to the 19th century, including works by Sano di Pietro and Ventura Salimbeni.

Marble inlay floor of the Cathedral of Siena

The marble floor — visible only a few weeks a year

The Cathedral’s famous marble inlay floor with 56 mosaics from the 14th–16th century is uncovered only during a limited period each year. In 2026 the floor is fully visible from 27 June to 31 July and from 18 August to 15 November. Outside these weeks large parts of the floor are covered by protective panels.

Good to know During the uncovered weeks Tiqets sells the pass at a slightly higher price (16 € official) because the experience is significantly more complete. If you can time your visit into these windows, the floor alone is worth the small surcharge.

How the voucher works

The Opa Si Pass is delivered as a mobile voucher. You exchange it for the physical ticket at one of three pick-up points in the historical centre.

4

Opa Si Pass or Cathedral-only ticket?

Not everyone needs all seven venues. If you only have an hour in Siena, the Cathedral-only ticket for the Duomo and the Piccolomini Library might be enough. For everyone else, the pass is the far better deal.

What visitors say

A mix of positive reviews and honest points of criticism — verbatim from real bookings on Tiqets and GetYourGuide.

“Voucher pick-up was quick and simple, and we visited all the included sites without long waits.”

R. · Austria · May 2026

“Great that you can skip the queue at the ticket office and just exchange your voucher. Valid three days, super quick entry — simply excellent!”

E. · Germany · September 2025

“Everything essential in one pass. It all went smoothly with no waiting.”

C. · Germany · August 2025

“The Duomo is stunning. The signage for the various entrances could be better — you always have to search a bit.”

L. · Germany · August 2025

“Well worth it — with the Opa Si Pass you visit the Cathedral, Baptistery, Crypt and Museum.”

U. · Germany · September 2025

“The Cathedral is overwhelming. Reservation lets you skip the ticket-desk queue. The audio guide makes the visit wonderfully self-directed — the description should just mention more clearly that you need to install a separate app.”

One honest heads-up before you book

Two things come up in reviews from time to time. First, the voucher has to be exchanged on-site at one of three pick-up points — it is not a scan-and-enter mobile ticket. Second, the audio guide runs in a separate free app that you should install before your visit while you still have hotel Wi-Fi. Neither is a dealbreaker, but knowing them in advance makes the day much smoother.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Opa Si Pass include?
The pass gives you entry to seven sites of the Cathedral complex: the Duomo itself, the Piccolomini Library, the Crypt, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Museo dell’Opera, the Facciatone panoramic viewpoint, and the Oratory of San Bernardino with the Diocesan Museum. A multilingual audio guide is included via a free smartphone app.
How long is the pass valid?
From the first use, the pass is valid for 3 consecutive days. You can visit each site once, and you do not have to see them all in one day.
Is the Porta del Cielo (rooftop) included?
No. The Porta del Cielo — a guided tour along the roof and inside the vaults of the Cathedral — is a separate paid ticket (21 € for adults) and needs to be booked in advance.
When is the marble floor visible?
In 2026 the marble inlay floor is fully uncovered from 27 June to 31 July and again from 18 August to 15 November. In other periods large parts of the floor are covered by protective panels.
How do I exchange my voucher?
You can exchange the voucher at the ticket desk of the Cripta del Duomo (San Giovanni staircase), at Piazza Duomo 7, or at the Dear Guests Visitor Center in Via di Città 48. Show the QR code on your phone — no printout needed.
Do I need to book a specific time slot?
No. The Opa Si Pass is valid for 3 consecutive days from your first entry, and you do not need to reserve a fixed time slot for any of the seven sites. Just show up whenever it suits you and enter with your ticket.
What languages does the audio guide support?
The audio guide is available in Italian, English, German, French and Spanish. It runs as a free app on your smartphone — we recommend installing it before you enter the Duomo, as Wi-Fi is limited inside.
What is the difference between the Opa Si Pass and the Cathedral-only ticket?
The Opa Si Pass covers seven sites of the Cathedral complex and is valid three days. The Cathedral-only ticket covers just the Duomo and the Piccolomini Library. If you want to see the Crypt, Baptistery, Museum, Facciatone or the Oratory of San Bernardino, you need the pass.
