How to get to the Cathedral

The Cathedral sits at the heart of Siena’s historical centre, which is closed to cars. The recommended car parks are Parcheggio Duomo (near the “Siena Ovest” highway exit) and Parcheggio Il Campo (near “Siena Sud”), both a 10–15 minute walk from the Cathedral. From Siena train station take bus line 3, 9, 10 or 17 to “Piazza del Sale”, then walk 5 minutes uphill.

Best time to visit

Mornings between 10:00 and 12:00 are the busiest at the Cathedral itself. If you want to avoid the queue at the ticket desk, arrive close to opening (10:00 / 10:30 depending on season) or come in the late afternoon after 16:00 — last admission is 30 minutes before closing. The Museum, Baptistery and Facciatone are almost always quieter than the Cathedral.
